Gold Mining Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Co. is the largest gold mine in the state, reaping ore from the gold-rich caldera that was part of the volcanic formation. The new mine offers a perspective, and an appreciation for the efforts of the gold rush pioneers. You can see first-hand the toil and back-breaking labor that went into gold mining in the 1890s at the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum and the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, Views of the modern mine from the American Eagles Scenic Overlook and Little Grouse area show how technology has improved the miner's endeavors.
Brian's Park Ice Skating Rink Open Daily public skating and hockey practice; hockey games and tournaments; home of the Penguins Youth Hockey Club. This is the only open air, groomed, ice rink in southern Teller County. On Portland Avenue between 4th and 6th streets. Open 8-8 daily December until spring thaw. While the summer is filled with sunny warm days in the 70s, it can also be rainy and even snow. Bring a warm jacket and clothing to ensure your stay is comfortable. These weather changes offer grand photographic opportunities and a chance to experience the real mountain climate. July is often wet and that brings out the colorful wildflowers that cover the mountainsides.
